"My introduction to Black Sabbath happened when I was in grade school. I can remember the friend and the day he told me about this band called Black Sabbath. That weekend I went out and bought my first Black Sabbath album, Black Sabbath. I grew up around music, my parents were both avid music listeners and my father was also a guitar player. I was already playing bass with him, mostly English folk and classics from the 60's and 70's. I'd never really heard music before that I could relate to, music that spoke directly to me. I can remember the first time I listened to Black Sabbath, it was a borderline religious experience! The music was dark, the vocals were haunting, the guitar riffs were powerful and heavy. But as a young bass player, what stood out to me immediately was the bass playing of Geezer Butler. I had never heard bass played like that before. The bass was so expressive, so dominant, it was the driving force behind most of the songs. Geezer Butler remains to be my largest influence. Black Sabbath introduced me to a world of musical expression from which I continue to draw inspriation."
Lee has played in numerous bands over his career covering styles from folk to country to rock to metal. He's played in tribute bands to Garth Brooks, Led Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, Tool, Deftones, and System of a Down, as well as many original outfits. That should give you an idea as to the versatility of his playing! He currently claims to have found his "bass playing niche" in life, playing tribute to Geezer Butler!
